Dr. Cornelie Jäger, Animal Welfare Representative for the German state of Baden- Wurttemberg.
Dear Dr Cornelie Jäger
Following on from the undercover investigation carried out by Animal Equality Germany at the amusement park and zoo, Schwaben Park, I urge you to carry out your own investigation into the findings; and demand an immediate end to the breeding of animals at the park, and an end to the cruel and archaic circus shows. Bearing in mind also the negative effect this form of animal exploitation will have on the reputation of Germany, I also urge you to begin the task of locating more suitable accommodation for the animals currently languishing at the park.
Incarcerating animals in cages and forcing them to perform for our own amusement is in direct conflict with the values of an ethically-developed society. I am saddened and deeply shocked by the footage obtained from Schwaben Park as I consider the animal shows to have no place in our society, particularly in a country where the use of chimpanzees in circuses is widely condemned.
The monotony of the animals’ daily lives, the separation of infant chimpanzees from their mothers, and the impaired physical and psychological state of animals at Schwaben Park reveal a shocking lack of concern for animal welfare by the park management. I therefore also urge you, as an authority on issues pertaining to animal protection, to investigate the reasons that the veterinary authorities responsible for the welfare of animals at Schwaben Park have failed to prevent such obvious cruelty, and have allowed such disregard of the needs of animals to continue.
In summary, I urge you to take immediate action to end the breeding and exploitation of animals at Schwaben Park, and locate a place where these animals can retire so they can live out the rest of their lives in peace.
I look forward to hearing from you.Yours sincerely,
